Responsible managment
For Gruppo Maio, doing business responsibly remains one of the main objectives. Gruppo Maio has implemented a Quality and Environmental Management System that allows for a unique and integrated vision of the objectives and results it aims for, thereby facilitating planning, the allocation of resources, the identification of complementary objectives and the evaluation of the overall effectiveness of the organization. All Group companies carry out their activities ethically and responsibly.
The quality and environmental management system
The Quality and Environmental Management System (QEMS) aims to:
- demonstrate the ability to regularly provide services that comply with the Client’s needs
- keep high environmental performance high
- comply with all applicable mandatory requirements
- increase client satisfaction and environmental performance through the effective application of the system, the continuous process of improvement and ensuring compliance with the specified requirements
The System requires the preparation of an Initial Environmental Review (IER), aimed at evaluating the existing relationships between past, present and future activities and the situation of the surrounding environment and area.
The analysis results in an organic systematization of data, with the consequent preparation for the identification and evaluation of the environmental aspects, that is to say of the activities that can give rise to environmental impacts. The evaluation of the environmental aspects, aimed at selecting them on the basis of their importance, takes into account different criteria including the relevance of the potential associated environmental impacts, the sensitivity of local communities etc. The aspects identified as significant lead to the adoption of documented management procedures to maintain operational control over company activities, improvement plans and monitoring procedures.
Gruppo Maio establishes its general strategies through the development of corporate environmental policies which set the respective objectives and improvement programmes, and which are kept up to date in line with the assessment of environmental aspects and with the environmental policy itself. It has also established specific procedures to identify the need for regulatory compliance and to maintain compliance with legal requirements of an environmental nature. The applicable environmental laws and the related requirements for the organization are constantly monitored and updated, as are the environmental organizations and corresponding regulations. In implementing its Environmental Management System, roles and responsibilities have been defined for the various company departments, establishing the environmental skills and knowledge necessary for personnel to carry out the various activities. Based on the respective skills and knowledge, a training plan is established which aims to train and inform all the people involved in environmental management and to guarantee activities that may have an impact on the environment are carried out correctly and that everyone is fully aware of emergency management plans.
